Polka dot Zinnia
Technically it's "fall" here on the Central Coast of California. What does fall mean to Pismo Beach? It means temperatures of over eighty degrees, margaritas with dinner, bike rides, and Zinnia skirts! Our summer weather is finally here! To celebrate the sunshine my husband, his cousin, and I went to brunch at Ventana Grill where we stuffed ourselves with crab legs, baked brie, and Bloody Marys. While we were there (post crab feast) I convinced Scott (the cousin) to take some photos of my latest make, the Zinnia skirt by Colette Patterns. My husband was happy to be off the hook and let Scott take the photos hahaTo be honest, I was kind of hesitant to buy this pattern. It's super cute, but I don't think that high waisted skirts are very flattering on me. Luckily, Zinnia looks good without tucking in your blouse, or at least I think it does! :)
I know this is a terrible photo of me, but how awesome is that view?!?! I know I have said it 289472304 times, but I love living by the ocean!
It doesn't show up well in photos, but if you squint, then yes, those are polka dots. The print is so busy that I decided not to include pockets, which is funny because I think the pockets are the cutest part! My next version will have pockets.
Somehow this fabric got in my stash and I'm not entirely sure how. It's most likely from my buddy Kacey and if it's not from her then I don't know who it is from. I think it's a lightweight polyester that feels nice on the skin during this "heat wave."
My sewing machine was being a little "B" and was messing up my buttonholes, so no closeups of those. Other than that, this skirt was straightforward to make and could easily be done in just a couple of days. Coming from a slow sewer that means something!
Sorry for my boringgggg post. I guess I need some margaritas for my writing to get a little more exciting!

This rocks! It has a lovely drape. And high five for the slow sewing club lol! I'm tempted the pattern!
ReplyDeleteLovely skirt. I'm hesitant about this pattern. Thanks for sharing. My photos of my bombshell swimsuit have the same view. We stayed at the Best Western right next door to the grill!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I love the pattern for others, I have a huge list on my hands and need to get to it before buying anymore patterns. :( Also, I think that it photographs much cuter on you than the dressform, even if we had to squint to see the polkadots. :) Kudos!
ReplyDeleteWow! You look great! I love your new glasses :) Zinnia looks like a great pattern and suits you so well!
ReplyDeleteLove it! So pretty. I really like the tiny polka dots. And I agree, the skirt looks great paired with an untucked top.
ReplyDeleteIt works so well in polka dots. I did wonder if it would look good with an untucked top - you just confirmed it does!
ReplyDeleteThat skirt is absolutely beautiful and I love the place where you live. I used to live by the sea and now I have it very far. I miss those walks on the beach.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of buttonholes does your machine make. Mine makes 1-step buttonholes and I've been having nightmares lately with it. It's not only that I don't get the hang of it, but sometimes they come out enormous and other times they are just too short. Is it the same with you?
Congrats on being the first Zinnia I've seen! That's some speedy sewing :-) I think this is a lovely skirt, and it's nice to see you revving up for a heatwave when I've started pulling out my woolly jumpers... it reminds me of sunshine
ReplyDeleteCute skirt, Miss Thang!
ReplyDeleteI love my fall here in Indiana...but YOUR fall looks pretty fabulous as well! :)
That is really cute, I love the polka dots! And it looks great with that bright green, too. I had to forgo a pocket on my latest blouse since it was too busy, so I hear you. There's something about some prints where it just doesn't work. Even though I looove pockets!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great summer skirt! Looks like it could go with a lot. Makes me want to try this pattern. Cheers to margaritas!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so lovely and airy! I can just imagine this getting caught in an ocean breeze as you pedal your bike to brunch (jealous...)! Sigh... that view... I second living next to salt water - it's the best. As are margaritas!! Anyway! Love the new skirt!
ReplyDeleteugh my sewing machine is always a B when it comes to buttonholes! The skirt looks lovely and so does that view! Jealous!!
ReplyDeleteCute! I really like this on you! And the view... aw man, I'm staring out the window of my office... at another building. Wish I was at the beach! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your ZInnia! The fabric is really adorable. It's nice to see that it looks good both tucked and un-tucked. Great job Erin!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this pattern I love this version, the fabric is perfect for it.
ReplyDeleteSo cute. Looking good with that awesomely coloured top too :-)
