Photo shoot and social networking

In my last post I was debating which outfit to make for a photo shoot. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything done in time, so I ended up wearing a dress I bought four or five years ago for a work Christmas party. Kind of a bummer, but I knew that if I tried to get an outfit sewn in under a week it would be full of mistakes and memories of me cursing and crying.

The image above is an Instagram photo of the photographer's camera. It was my favorite one from the day and I can't wait to see the rest in a few weeks. Speaking of Instagram, I made my account public so if you want to lurk me now you can: misscrayolacreepy.

So far this post has nothing at all to do with sewing, so I think I will keep going with the theme and ask how you guys deal with all your comment spam on Blogger. I know that Oona has mentioned it, but lately it has gotten out of control! I don't like putting restrictions on who can comment on my posts, but with the amount of spam getting to my inbox it's just something I have to do :( A lot of you use Disqus, so I'm giving that a shot for now. What are your thoughts on Disqus, yay or nay?

  1. You look beautiful!!!! That dress is a a great colour on you. I'm glad you didn't push yourself too hard to come up with something new... now to can sew for fun, and not full of panic!
I use Discus, and like it... but I have been getting spam on Twitter lately, and it's driving me crazy!

  3. Beautiful picture! :) I'm actually not a fan of Disqus because I can't comment from my iPhone on blogs that use it. Switch to WordPress; you can have it filter out spam and people you've approved once can comment freely ever after :)

  4. I'm either super lucky or not popular, cause I don't get spam on my blog!

  5. You look gorgeous:) I like disqus as you can see when you get comments back, but unsure how to make it look like everyone elses? when I install it it opens in a different page? Maybe I'm just special haha

  6. HATE Disqus! Never works nicely for me. I usually won't even comment on a website or blog with Disqus, but you asked so I wanted to speak up on behalf of the people who don't like it. I know Paunnet recently had a blog giveaway and the next post said something about people not being able to comment to win because Disqus doesn't work for this long list of people who use this browser or that Internet device, so I know I'm not alone!

  7. I can't wait to see more of your photos!! The dress looks beautiful and I think you made the best choice by not stressing yourself out :) As far as Disqus goes, I think from the bloggers perspective, it's one of the best systems. I've never once had a spam comment show up on my site and it allows people to converse back and forth easily. The only thing I don't like about it is I can't click on someones name or photo and go to their blog. So if "Betty" comments on my blog, and I don't recognize the email address attached to it, I have no idea who that Betty is. But other than that, I really like it. It's just easy.

  9. I don't really like Disquis. I feel like it isn't really all that user friendly and I can't figure out some of the things that I'd like to do with it (like linking to my blog through my name like I usually do.

  10. hi lady! I have to say that my spam is out of control too, but somehow blogger catches 99.9% of it so only one in a blue moon shows up on my blog. I have to say I am not a fan of Disquis, because no matter how many times I log in, it never registers me as "me" and my comments look anonymous. I certainly don't comment for publicity, but I do like that if people want to link back to me they can, and Disquis makes it soooo hard for that to happen. but I do understand the frustration with spam. in other news, how cute are you in your photo?!!!

  13. Wow Erin, you look gorgeous! (more so than usual :) )

I think Disqus is probably my favourite comment platform & not just because I use it! I love that as a commenter, when the blog host (or other) replies to your comment that you get an email- saves going back an forth. I also like that you don't need to choose how you want to comment each time like you do with Blogspot for example (URL/ OpenID/ Google account etc. etc.) -it can all get a bit tedious for me. And like other people who have it on their own site, I've never received any spam comments.... AWESOME!!!

One thing you need to know about Disqus though is that it doesn't work in all browsers. When I view through Explorer (not sure what version I have installed), I get a message saying that I need to use Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Explorer 9. Lucky for me I have Chrome installed as well, so no biggie there, but might be for some of your readers

  14. I've just switched to Disqus because I have been rather cross with the inability to reply directly to comments. I'm not sure how it will pan out in the long run so am interested to see what peeps reply with here.

Ugh disqus hates me. It will probably eat this comment too! I'm sorry spammers are getting you down but hey! you look amazing in that photo, so win!!

  17. Disquuuus! I'm like a disqus evangelist now, I love it. It makes it so easy to reply to people and they actually get notified, so it creates a dialogue! Also I haven't had a single spam since! I hope you love it like I do.

Also, you look utterly gorgeous! :D

  18. photo shoot? oh you know that I love photo shoots. I can't wait to see the final pictures.

As for comments, I like Disqus because it is interactive. If you click on the name of the commenter, you can see all the other comments he or she has made on different blogs.

  19. One goofy thing I have discovered with Disqus is that on some Blogger sites that use it, if you view on an iPad you don't see their Disqus comments, you see them in their normal format, but then those comments (if they are approved) don't show up if you view the same post in a web browser. But I do love the tracking ability because it's SO easy to forget where you left a comment and you might miss a really great conversation otherwise!

I have noticed a huge uptick in spam too that's making me crazy, I want to turn off Anonymous comments but sometimes I get valid ones. :-/

  20. I like Disqus because I can reply to comments and the commenter gets notified that I've replied to them. But I don't like it because it's incompatible with Internet Explorer and sometimes when I log in on my computer it takes forever for the platform to load. Also it doesn't link the person's name to their blog (if they have one). Like with everything there are it's ups and downs I suppose.

  21. Erin, you look stunning! What a great shot. I look forward to seeing the rest!

  22. What a beautiful photo! Looking forward to seeing others from the shoot!

I love Disqus! It's so nice to be notified of replies. Since I blog on Wordpress, I get reply notifications from other WP folks, but there's no way for me to know if someone replied to a comment I left on a Blogger blog.
