Black and yellow

I know that I am pretty boring because my last four sewing projects have been of shirts, but I am focusing on sewing things that I will actually wear. I have a closet full of clothes that get little use, so I am trying to be more practical.

This is a Sorbetto top with sleeves. This was my first time not including the pleat, which I think is a nice change. I also added three inches to the length because I like longer shirts.

This is the fabric I used. The right side (literally on the right side of the photo) is a little too bright for my liking, so when I made the shirt I used the reverse/wrong side (left side of the photo). Does anyone else do that? It was my first time switching it up, but I am pleased with the final product.

  1. dude... do not worry about being boring! I swear I am the queen of boring because I always gravitate towards dark colours and I'm always thinking 'gawd, everyone must think i'm so dull!' LOL but you really have to make stuff YOU are gonna wear, not what others will think is interesting ^___^

Besides... I love your tops, i think they're cute and they suit you :)

  3. I know the value of sewing shirts - my overall outfits become lacking without them. So I say, keep at it! I think this one is super-cute thought!

  5. Very, very cute. I'm coming around to the sorbetto with sleeves-it's looks great!
I'd never even thought about using the opposite of the fabric before, it worked so well here!

  6. Good idea about using the wrong side. Your top looks so great :) Don't worry about being boring either, there are loads of people out there who think making basics is a worthy and interesting endeavour. I'm about to start a basic white top similar to this- the epitome of boring I guess! lol! :)

  8. I've sewn fabric using the wrong side before; in fact, I did so with the dress I'm wearing right now! It is made of kente cloth and the right side had this weird somewhat shiny finish that really bothered me, so I flipped it. Other times I've...just...not noticed? I bought a couple yards of floral rayon with a pink background the other day and only once I was home did I realise that I was looking at the wrong side and the background was actually meant to be this super bright corally-red...

  9. aww, it's cute!! I like it. Nice move with flipping the fabric over. I was thinking how I absolutely cannot post another sorbetto project for a few months... but... it's so practical!! There will definitely be more shirts in my immediate future. I was actually contemplating using that pajama pattern tonight. LOL. I'm going to a slumber party/bachelorette next weekend, and matching pajamas seems appropriate :)

  11. Really, really cute! I love it! You really can't have too many tops! I like the more subdued side, too-- good idea! I've used the wrong side before-- I thought I had purchased a regular cotton twill, but when I unfolded the cut fabric, it had a weird napped side, so I just turned that to the inside.

  12. How adorable! I love that you paired it with a light blue cardi.

And I am all for sewing practical things. No fun to sew things you can only wear on special occasions.

  13. Ha... I'm about to post about all the t-shirts I've made recently. Now that is boring. But if it's what you wear, then it's what you should sew and post about, right? Right. Besides, the print is fun, and I like that you used the reverse (not wrong!) side :)
